We Got Wood - 44.06 - Portland Signs Another Reliever. Well, Sort of.

Sort of is correct. The club did sign Julio Valasco, but that debacle has already been detailed. So to make up for that loss, the club went out and signed Nick Snyder to try and help boost the bullpen.

Snyder comes over from Rockville where he had a solid 7-year run, posting an ERA of 4.50 and a total WAR of 6.1. He was the team's primary closer in '39 and '40 where he tallied 78 saves.

"He's been a solid guy in the past so we liked the acquisition" said Portland assistant GM Ted Dunn. "We aren't sure he's closer material right now, but we like the fact he's shown he can eat innings in the past and do so successfully. We hope to get anywhere from 50 to 75 innings from him this season."

In 2041, Snyder posted 104.1 innings, a career high. His ERA was lofty, at 5.08 that season, but he recorded 121 strikeouts en route to a career best 1.8 WAR.

"We'd take that in our pen right now" added Dunn, who concluded the team is still looking for one more piece for the pitching staff this off-season. He did not disclose if that piece would be for the rotation or the bullpen.
