"Yeah, taking a high school pitcher this early isn't in the book" Wilson commented. "So much can happen between now and when Burgos is ready to make it to the big leagues. I had some bad experiences taking high school arms back in my Madison days and I prefer to stay away from them now. However, we wanted to stick with taking an arm this early in the draft so we did. The draft isn't extremely deep as it is, so we took what we also felt was the best player on the board. Let's hope he pans out in 5-6 years."
Burgos has the make-up of a solid pitcher. Coming in a 6 foot 5, he's a tall, lanky southpaw weighing in at 195. Entering the draft as an international free agent, Burgos has no officials stats from either a high school league or an organized travel league. Still at his home in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, Burgos was not available for comment on what it means to be drafted by the Lumberjacks but he issued a statement prior to the draft that he's looking forward to pitching in the BBA one day.
