We Got Wood - 42.16 - Taking Two from Chicago Eases the Pain

Post by 7teen » Wed Apr 01, 2020 3:45 pm

For a lot of teams, going 2-4 would hardly be anything to write home about. Especially when you lose 3 to a divisional rival whose goal it is to make sure his team finishes above your team in the standings. But, one thing that helps ease the pain of losing those 3 games at home is taking two from a Non-Division rival who you just want to win games against, and that's what Portland did this sim. The team drops to 5-7 on the season, but hey, in Portland, that ain't bad!

Scores
3-2 LOSS vs Long Beach; 11 Innings
5-3 LOSS vs Long Beach
4-1 LOSS vs Long Beach
4-2 WIN vs Chicago
4-3 WIN vs Chicago
8-7 LOSS vs Nashville; 11 Innings

In the final loss to Nasvhille, Portland scored 2 in the 9th to force extra innings but fell short in the end. In an offensive era, and with Portland having some very poor pitching, only one game this sim saw a team score more than 5 runs and it was the finale.

Vincente Venalde
This used to be easier to do in the old OOTPOU days when you had sim stats. Do those still get generated anywhere? Venalde appeared in 4 of our games this sim and pitched a perfect 5 innings of relief. He allowed 3 hits and just 1 walk while striking out 8 and recording his first 2 saves of the season as our closer in 2042.

Dempsey is not an every day player for us anymore but we are getting him some opportunities in RF and at DH from time to time. And he's not disappointing thus far in a small role and small sample size. This week, he only played in two games, both against Long Beach, and he went 2-4 in one outing and then 3-4 in another for a 5 for 8 week. So far, in the Lumberjacks 12 games, Dempsey has gotten 13 at-bats and has hits in 7 of those for a solid .538 clip to start the season. For those keeping track at home, and I know you are, he's 130 hits shy now of 3,000. It won't come in 2042, but look for it potentially next season if he can continue to hit like this in limited time.

Lionnel Crepin
On the flip side, the guy getting a bulk of the starts in RF over Dempsey had a putrid sim. Crepin went 0-19 in the sim, but did walk 6 times and score a pair of runs. Unfortunately for Crepin, that wasn't enough to take him out of the bum award. It also saved Sadaharu Oh III from taking the honor this week as he went 0-13. Oh reached base just 1 time in 5 games, but his less chances at the plate saved him over Crepin. If these two don't get it together, we could be seeing more of Dempsey this season. Or perhaps some minor league signing filling in at DH moving forward.......
