Despite finishing dead last in runs scored in 2041, the Lumberjacks had a few hitter put up some solid seasons. Nothing close to being an award contender in the Frick League by any means but for this squad they were solid.
Portland swiped up Tomas Valadez off the waiver wire pile from Vancouver (silly Mounties) and turned in a solid season for the Lumberjacks. He missed all of April toying around in the Vancouver minor leagues but after coming to Portland turned it on. Valadez hit .321 with a .785 OPS en route to a 1.9 WAR, the second highest on the team. Valadez had 54 RBI and stole 19 bases while playing above average defense at 2B. Defense was expected to be his weakness but he turned in a +2.7 ZR while making just 6 errors at the spot in 115 games. Jorge Lopez, our top rookie, was also up for the award. But both fell short of claiming the honor.
It should come as no surprise that Jon Mick is your 2041 top hitter for the Lumberjacks. Mick, our only repeat winner of an award from 2040, led the team in nearly every category. His 2.8 WAR was a team high. Also team highs were his 46 homeruns, 108 runs scored, and 121 Runs Batted In. For Mick, the 121 RBI marks his 9th consecutive season with over 100 RBI and now ranks 18th all-time on the historical leaderboard in that category. The 46 homeruns marks the 6th time in his career that Mick has hit at least 40 homeruns in a season, falling 5 shy of his career best of 51 set in 2034 with Madison. Mick currently sits 19th all-time in homeruns.
Mick is set to be a free agent this week, the first time he'll hit the open market in his career. His WAR numbers will land Portland a 2nd Round Supplemental Pick assuming his signs before the draft. The Lumberjacks have reported the team and Mick aren't in talks for an extension. It was rumored Mick was willing to take a discout from his $20 million a year salary but the Lumberjacks weren't interested in Mick's services at the price he was asking for an extension and will look to either sign another power bat in free agency or re-open talks with Mick if his demands come down further.

I need to find a number of “Valadez’s” to move the Aviators forward. I don’t think I’ll find many (any lol) AAAA players as cheap FA’s and I haven’t the funds for any prime multi-year deals. My hope is finding a minor leaguer that could blossom if given a BBA chance or a lucky Valadez find

Valadez will tank this year. No way I get lucky with a 2.0 WAR player off waivers consistent.Fat Nige wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 6:12 pmI need to find a number of “Valadez’s” to move the Aviators forward.
