It's very unfortunate that we have no history just yet and can't name our season ending awards for any particular players. So we'll just have to go all boring by calling them by what they are: The Top Player In their area. So with that, let's take a look at who the Lumberjacks' top rookie was in 2040.
Despite being an expansion team starting in 2040, the Lumberjacks didn't have a ton of players making their rookie debut this season. After looking through the roster, the choice as to who to give the award to was narrowed down to one main guy.
Bing-zhang Kim was that guy. Kim played his rookie season in Centerfield for the Lumberjacks this season and managed to produce a mediocre 1.0 WAR on the season. He hit .236/.318/.407 with 14 homeruns and 69 runs batted in over 139 games played this season. He stole 29 bases and played a slightly average defense in centerfield for Portland in 2040.
What hurt Kim mostly was he was not very good against lefty pitching which probably hurt his overall production. With the possibility of Howeth-Arneson Jr coming up next season to man the CF position, there is some belief within the organization that Kim will be a platoon player in a corner outfield spot where his defensive ability will be more prominent than it was this year in Center.
Kim will also go down in Portland history as the first guy to hit a homerun in the franchise's history!
