We Got Wood - 40.50 - Using "de" Waivers

Portland hasn't been too shy this season when using and taking advantage of the waiver wire this season. They did so again here recently when the club acquired Bengt de Meza off waivers from Wichita. Portland makes Meza's 3rd team this season, having spent time with Rockville prior to going to Wichiat. Meza makes the 4th player the Lumberjacks have claimed off waivers this season while also losing 4 players via the same process.
Meza has acclimated himself well with Portland through just 3 starts. He's gone 1-1 with a no decision over this 3 outings, allowing 7 runs over 21.2 innings pitched. In his last start against Des Moines, Bengt pitched 7.2 shutout innings while allowing 7 hits and a pair of walks in the Lumberjacks 1-0 loss the Kernels.
"We are in dire need of anyone who we think can possibly pitch and get outs" said Lumberjacks GM Chris Wilson. "de Meza clearly has control issues that will likely cause plenty of inconsistency in his outings, but he throws hard and has plenty of movement on his pitches. Our theory with waiver pick ups has turned into that if we would have drafted you in the expansion draft, we'll probably pick you up now! As long as your salary isn't too insane anyway."
de Meza makes $1.9 million this season and in 2041. He has a team option for $1.9 million in 2042. "We'll see how he pitches this year and next season before deciding on that team option obviously" added Wilson. "But again, we need starting pitching and de Meza can compete for that here."
