For the first time in the organization's brief history, the Portland Lumberjacks can lay claim to a championship thanks to their rookie league squad in Bend, Oregon. The Bend Wild Things defeated the Laramie Wranglers of the Vancouver Mounties organization to claim the Spike Nolan League Championship. For the Portland franchise, it's their first organization championship!
"I'm proud of these young men" said Lumberjacks General Manager Chris Wilson. "Winning a championship at any level is always a special honor. But to do so over those boys from Vancouver makes this one even more special. I told the boys before the game that winning games now will plant the seed in those boys heads that they can't beat you later on down the road. And we did just that. Once we get this machine rolling full speed in Portland, those Canadian Mounties won't stand a chance. They better get us now, because a train is coming and they're standing on the tracks! Pass me a beer!!"
The Wild Things went through the regular season as the Wild Card and then advanced their way through the post-season.
But there wasn't some controversy after the win. Despite the fact of grumblings that Bend stacked a team with "veteran" rookie leaguers, more controversy arose after the final game when Special Assistant to the GM Kate Fiscus was rumored to have played a role. The Laramie team declined to comment and Vancouver GM Tyler Bettencourt failed to respond as well. But Fiscus was more than willing to talk.
"I'm not sure what the problem really is. All I can say is I joined Wilson on the trip to cheer on our Wild Things. And during the trip I had a run in with some of the players with Laramie. And all I can say is those are some fine young men over there with the club. But I have to admit, they did look a little tired and fatigued out there against our boys. Go Wild Things!"

Hmmm. Are we sure Mark Simpson hurt himself moving barrels?
Congrats to Bend, though. Pretty cool to win in your inaugural season!

I don't expect that Kate taught anyone how to breathe through their eyelids.
