We Got Wood - 40.48 - Wilson Leaves Portland

Post by 7teen » Tue Nov 19, 2019 1:05 pm

Scare ya? Probably not the best of headlines but I'm sure it got your attention. Portland Lumberjacks GM Chris Wilson has left the Lumberjacks today in order to be with the rookie league team out in Bend, Oregon tonight. The Wild Things are one win away from capturing the Rookie League title.

"I told those guys I'd join them if they were about to win the title. I'm honoring that promise."

Wilson opted to travel by car in making the 3 hour trip to Bend down I-5 and various other Oregon highways. If the Wild Things are victorious tonight, it'll be the franchise's first title at any level. An obvious statement given the inaugural status of the organization. If the team loses, it will mean a deciding game 5 to be played against the Laramie Wranglers.

"If the club loses game 4, I'm undecided about making the trip to Laramie" said Wilson. "Not because I don't want to go or don't want to be there. But superstition may dictate I stay behind."

Wilson is referring to the fact that both series the Wild Things have won thus far has gone to a deciding game. Bend defeated Charlottesville in game 3 of the best of 3 series 7-3. The Wild Things then knocked off Traverse City 8-2 in the deciding 3rd game. The championship round is a best of 5 with Bend on top in the series 2-1. Game 4 is tonight in Bend as mentioned with game 5 two days away if necessary.

"We hope to get this done tonight, in front of Wilson and the home fans" said Dennie Gestel, the game 4 starter tonight. "We really don't want to have to travel back to Laramie, even though we were successful there in games 1 and 2. We'd like to clinch one of these rounds at home since we're yet to do so."

Go Laramie! Former team of mine. Also I’m a bit surprised you aren’t making a bigger deal out of the fact that this is essentially Portland vs Vancouver
