Following the only General Manager that ever loved them. Check. Chasing down records in hopes of one day becoming Hall of Famers. Wait and see. Helping an expansion franchise become relevant? Check. Now, the duo of Jon Mick and Steve Dempsey can add "Team Co-Captains" to their list of accomplishments in the BBA.

"It's a really big honor" Portland Designated Hitter Steve Dempsey announced today as the team prepares for it's opening day game. "The Skipper came up to both Porky and myself last week and asked what we thought about being Co-Captains of this new squad and we both said yes. Being a part of a new organization is exciting but we expect many challenges to come through the season."

"Challenges for sure" said Jon Mick. "No one really knows what to expect coming out of the gate. We had a solid spring season so we're optimistic it will carry over into the regular campaign."

Lumberjacks General Manager Chris Wilson denied comment on whether he was behind the assignment of Mick and Dempsey as Co-Captains of the squad. One can only assume he had a huge part in naming the two captains of this inaugural team. The two have a combined 25 years of experience in the league, all in Madison under Wilson. Comments from Lumberjacks manager Tarafah bin Bahir only ensures that someone was behind the decision.

"We needed some captains" said the 33 year old bin Bahir. "I'm not really sure what I"m doing so I can use all the help I can get. I was just walking down the street a few weeks ago and some guy asked 'Hey, you know baseball'? I sort of shrugged and said yeah and then he asked me if I wanted to manage. So, here I am."

Tarafah Bahir has no experience in the BBA as a manager. Hell, he has none as a coach. So it could be assumed that Wilson has some special plans up his sleeve down the road that could see Dempsey and Mick as player coaches of this inaugural squad while bin Bahir's one year contract expires. "They're paying me $150,000 this year. That's nearly 10 times my normal pay. Maybe after this year I can use my new found riches to become part owner of Madison or something."
