News recently surfaced that fans of the Vancouver Mounties were unhappy with how things have been going this off-season and are planning a protest outside the stadium. The protests were over the lack of big moves made this off-season by the franchise. The lack of moves and the news of protests trickled south into Oregon and allowed for Lumberjacks General Manager Chris Wilson to comment.
"I'm not sure which surprises me the least" said Wilson, "that fans are unhappy or that no one wants to play in Vancouver. I think most players are just waiting until Portland gets a little cap space and money to join us here in Portland and beat up on Vancouver rather than playing with them to get beat by us. As for the fans, well the report said only about 50 fans would likely be at the protest. I"m fairly sure that's about all the fans Vancouver has."
General Manager Chris Wilson has had a long standing rivalry with Vancouver since the early decade of the 2000s and now that he's in the same division as Vancouver, is bringing that rivalry to Portland where Lumberjacks fans appear to be embracing the rivalry despite the fact the two teams have never met.
"We'd never protest our team" said one fan. "We think Wilson is great and we're going to beat those Mounties!"
Fans are already excited about the first meeting between these two teams to take place in Vancouver in late April. Wilson though, wasn't too pleased with the scheduling. "We have to go to Vancouver twice before they even come here" Wilson said. "I hate the fact that Portland fans have to travel to that godforsaken country and city twice before they can watch us beat them down here in Portland. I guess the only pride we'll get out of those first two series is knowing we'll embarass them there and our fans will outnumber their's in the stands. Assuming their fans arent' too busy to attend. You know, with the protesting and all!"
Portland and Vancouver first meet on April 26-28. They'll meet again June 10-12 in Vancouver. Vancouver then comes to Portland July 5-7 and then again August 26-29
