"It's an exciting time for sure" said the CEO of Portland baseball David Wallace. "Fans here have been waiting a long time. Clearly fans here have been waiting on the edge for the next BBA expansion. It's easy to see why fans here are apprehensive to get too excited just yet. Until they see the first pitch thrown they'll remain skeptical, but I can assure you fans of Portland, Oregon. Baseball is coming and it's coming next year to your city!"
What Wallace is referring to is how Portland was so close to a franchise back in the BBA expansion of 2029. Portland was announced as one of the four expansion teams coming into the BBA. In fact, it was even announced to the world that baseball was coming. But as quickly as it came it left.
"It left our sour taste in the mouths of a lot of the residents of this city. Sure, they have baseball all around them. California has a handful of teams, Seattle has a team, the state of Idaho has a team. Even Vancouver has something that resembles a team. But Oregon had nothing. And to finally get something and have it taken away, that really stung a lot of these people. I think a lot of them got turned off to baseball. But now, now they have something they can call theirs" added Wallace.
Details are slowly emerging as stated about the structure of the team. An expansion draft will be conducted following the 2039 Landis Memorial Series and fans of the city will begin putting faces and names with their team. A team, that Wallace announced today, now has an identity and a logo.
"We are going to keep with the tradition that was started briefly in 2039" said Wallace. "The team had a name then. Fans were fired up for that team. So we are going to give it to them. Even if it's 11 years later. The city of Portland will be the home of the Lumberjacks. The Portland Lumberjacks! Uniforms, park names, and all the personnel to the team will be unveiled later. But for now, we have a name and a logo"
Wallace unveiled the logo. Based on that, it appears the team's colors will be some sort of shade of green with a red/orange mixed in with it.
