Hold My Log - 51.2 - Lemoine Retires

Post by 7teen » Tue May 17, 2022 7:42 am

After just one season at the helm, a season in which he led the Portland Lumberjacks to their first ever Pacific Division title and to the Frick League's best record, manager Yves Lemoine has decided to retire from professional baseball. The decision comes after having spent 20 seasons as a coach at various levels of baseball.

"The time has come for me to step away from the game" said the 61 year old Reims Champagne, France native. "I appreciate the opportunity to manage here in Portland and had full intentions of spending more than just 1 season leading this club but circumstances have dictated I step away from the game. I have enjoyed my time in professional baseball but the time has come to enjoy other things."

Reports are Lemoine intends to return home to France in retirement.

The news came as a shock to the front office of Portland who had went out on a limb to sign Lemoine last season, taking the long time Vegas Pitching Coach that was a part of 3-consecutive Landis winning teams with the Hustlers.

"We are definitely stunned by Yves' decision to retire" commented assistant general manager Kate Fiscus. "We brought him over last season to be part of what we hoped to be a dynasty here in Portland and for him to provide the leadership and stability needed to head us in the direction of winning a Brewster title. His decision to retire after just 1 season at the helm, a very successful season I might add, definitely comes as a shock to the organization."

The retirement of Lemoine now leaves the franchise searching for yet another manager. Portland has already had 5 different managers in it's 11 year infancy, and will now begin it's search for its 6th. Early reports are the team will stay within the organization this go around, leading to reports that bench coach Keith Russell or Single-A manager Grux King are the early favorites to replace Lemoine.

His departure could be an indicator of front office dysfunctionality. ;)

He'd have known that coming in! haha

Or he sees we have some issues with limited salary and a lot of holes to fill. And yes, insert a Kate reference here! haha
