The Portland Lumberjacks made another minor free agent signing to help fill a need for the club this coming season. Signing a 1 year, $1.2 million contract to play in Portland is Grant "Piglet" Lee.
Lee has been well traveled throughout his 14 year big league playing career. Lee has spent most of that time in the BBA. Over his 13 years spent in the major league in the US, Lee has played for 8 different franchises including Portland. He's had two separate stints in Rockville, where he spent the 2048 season. For the Pikemen, Lee hit .236/.298/.421 with 8 homeruns and 24 RBI over 195 at-bats. A tally that produced 0.2 WAR a year ago.
Lee is far beyond his prime. AT 34 years of age, gone are the days of hitting 20 or more homeruns, something he did six consecutive times between 2036-2041. Another knock on Lee is he's not the fittest of glove men to be patrolling centerfield. Nonetheless, the Portland front office felt it imperative to sign a platoon option in CF and Lee fit the bill.
"We experimented with some guys in CF last year and it didn't work" commented Kate Fiscus. "Unfortunately we rode Jorge Lopez a little too much and it could have cause him to have a worse season than he should have. He was put in some spots, facing lefty pitchers, that just didn't do him a service. While we admit we aren't blessed with upper level defensive guys in CF this year, we are hopeful that platooning Lopez and Lee in CF will at least produce some positive offensive numbers and a decent combined WAR."
On a tight budget, it appears the Lumberjacks are done with off-season moves. The team managed to pick up a platooning CF and C this of-season while spending a total of $2.1 million.

I was trying to do the same and offered him more money, but it was as a minor leaguer with the major league option. Oh well.

Michel Noël tried to talk him out of signing,
I talked to Noel on the phone and he still talks about this day:
"09/25/2046 Goes 5-6 against the Portland Lumberjacks, with 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI and 5 R."

You'd think after a performance like that he may want to play in Portland full-time. But nope!scottsdale_joe wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 12:24 pmMichel Noël tried to talk him out of signing,
