We Got Wood - 48.16 - Give Us Your Praises

The quote read: "GM Chris Wilson is a god. We should all bow down to him." At least that's how we read Weiner's Top Ten In The 2048 BBA Amateur Draft, And Why when he evaluated the top 10 players in the draft and how Portland's selection of catcher Tynan Potter was rated as the top player in the draft. All the more reason to bow down to Wilson for selecting him with the 5th overall pick.

"We knew Potter was the cream of the crop when we saw the draft class" commented Wilson. "Of course the cream of this shit pile crop isn't as creamy as most of the previous creams but we think Potter is pretty primo."

Potter, the 17 year old from Texas, shows the ability to provide a good offensive punch behind the plate for the Lumberjacks in future years. The one knock on the young Potter is his lack of defensive ability. Some have stated Potter isn't really a catcher and may be destined for a career as a DH in the league.

"We'll see how he looks in the farm" said Wilson. "He's just 17 and perhaps can improve on his skill. We definitely do not like his ability as a DH nearly as much as possibly as a catcher. We'll stick with him as a catcher until we just can't."

Which brings us back to Weiner's supreme praise of Wilson. Weiner even compared the god-like Wilson pick of Potter to his own catcher in Manuel Moreno. Of course Moreno has never produced a WAR over 1.0 so maybe we should stop praising Weiner's praising of Wilson.

Nonetheless, Portland is happy with the pick of Potter who projects to be a possible plausible catcher of pitchers one day.

Portland Nabs Another Catcher in Round 2
Portland doubled up on backstops in the first two rounds by selecting Will Bennett in round 2. Bennett, who is also 17, is also lacking some in the defensive department but does provide some gap power and a solid eye. If he can find a bump somewhere along the way, he could be a serviceable guy behind the plate. Weiner didn't praise this pick due to a lack of media reporting on round 2, but we're sure he'd have praised this pick as well!

Phew. And here I was concerned that you'd take the news too far. That's a relief.
