Overall, not a bad start for the boys of Portland. Anytime this team can go .500 we'll take it. Throw in the fact we had the player of the week and it makes things even better. Of course it's easy to look at those two positives and let it mask the fact we were outscored by 9 runs overall and we are dead last in runs allowed. But then again, you could just say we aren't trying to fool anyone from the get go because our pitching probably will allow the most runs this season so, consistency. That's the key!
Scores
19-5 LOSS at Louisville
6-1 WIN at Louisville
7-3 LOSS vs San Fernando
8-6 WIN vs San Fernando
8-2 WIN vs San Fernando
10-6 LOSS vs San Fernando
So the Lumberjacks start 3-3 overall and have yet to lose a season series. Granted we haven't won one either, but in all honestly if we split every series this season we'd be pretty happy!
Pitcher of the Sim
Eduardo Reyes
Reyes, our number 5 starter, made one appearance this sim and it was a fine one. Reyes pitched 6 shutout innings in the 8-2 win over San Fernando to pick up the win. He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks over the course of those 6 innings while striking out 7. With most of our pitchers on a 99-pitch limit, Reyes was pulled after 6 innings having thrown 103 pitches and posting a game score of 71.
Hitter of the Sim
Mario Guerrer
When you win the Frick League's top hitter award as well, it's a no-brainer you take home the Hitter of the Sim award for the club as well. Guerrer, the overpaid 1B who came to us from Charm City this off-season, came out of the gates hot, hitting .462/.483/1.000 in the opening sim with 4 homeruns and 10 RBI. He had a hit in 5 of the 6 games the Lumberjacks played in and had a multi-hit game in 4 of the 6. He hit a pair of homeruns against Louisvlle in the 6-1 win then completed the sim with a pair of 3 hit games against the Bears in which he also homered to give the home fans at the Trail in Multnomah something to cheer about!
Worthless Bum of the Sim
Ghi-cheng Kum
It's been an up and down ride for Kum of late in Portland with more downs than ups. Kum went 0-2 in the opening sim as the teams "number 1" starter, allowing 5 runs against both Louisville and San Fernando. He lasted just 3 innings on opening day after surrendering 5 runs on 4 hits and a pair of walks. He made it one inning further against the Bears but still surrendered 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. It's been a pretty bleak run for Kum, the franchise leader in wins, who once started 9-1 in 2040.
