2065.3 Charlotte makes several changes to the big league coaching staff

Teams often announce their coaching changes early, especially if there will be members of the big league staff who are not returning. The Charlotte Flyers have just announced several changes in December, as the league is about to conduct the annual Rule 5 Draft.

Assistant General Manager, and former manager, Ivan Correa has been fired. The team has not yet announced his replacement.

Bench Coach Jon Mick has also been relieved of his duties. He will be replaced by John Graves. Graves, who is also known as “Nine Fingers” has been the manager of a struggling AA New Bern Bears club since 2058. Graves is known for his ability to teach baserunning at a high level. That will be one of his key responsibilities outside of his in-game duties as bench coach. Graves is being replaced by Hector Fuentes, who was the pitching coach in Short A last season.

First base coach Alex Rivera has been fired as well. He will be replaced by Robert Menzies. Tosser was originally hired as the new hitting coach for the organization’s Rookie level club, but when manager Walt Whitworth talked to him about his approach to coaching, Whitworth petitioned to have Menzies added to the BBA coaching staff immediately. Menzies will be in charge of teaching the infielders and outfielders better fielding techniques, as he was an incredible, and versatile fielder in his playing days.

Trainer Jorge Luna retired earlier in the offseason and was replaced by Candrata Sarangarajan. Sarangarajan, a balanced and overall high quality trainer, is working this offseason on improving his skills rehabbing a variety of injury types.

The timing of these changes is interesting, but general manager Nathan Garrison indicated that following a disappointing season, he and Walt Whitworth didn’t want to make any rash decisions. They met several times over the last couple of months and determined what they felt was needed in order to get the team moving back into a winning direction.
