Garrison: Ivan, did you check on the guys in the dev lab yet? The first wave of players should be finishing up in the next 4 or 5 weeks.
Correa: Yes. I just got back from my trip out there. Let me fill you in.
As you know, Jacquot Natta is working with the staff on strength and conditioning. After the injury that cost him the '63 season, we're trying to avoid more time on the IL. Unfortunately, he's having a bit of trouble with the program. He's doing everything they ask of course, he's just been frustrated with the results so far.
Larry Jensen is in the same program and is having similar results. To be honest, he's having a little more trouble than Bandit is.
Garrison: That's unfortunate. Hopefully they can turn it around. I'd love to have those guys at full strength all year. We have somebody else in that program too. How's he doing?
Correa: I've got better news there. One of our top pitching prospects, Bill Johnson, is really taking to the program. The staff feels like he has a good chance to see positive results. There's also a chance he picks it up just a bit and truly excels at the program.
Garrison: That's great to hear. I like that kid. Ok. What about Cummings? I've seen a couple of good reports from scouts this offseason on him but how is the dev lab going?
Correa: It's going very well. Felipe Cummings is really excelling as he tries to improve his secondary pitch. Hopefully that continues. Prospects John Miller and Virgilio DelSolgio are working on that program too. They are also doing well. Not as well as Felipe, but they're still looking good.
Garrison: Fantastic. Give me a quick rundown of other guys who are doing well.
Correa: No problem. Relief prospect Kayahan Al-Suhrawardi is on track in his program aimed at improving pitch movement and catching prospect Cipriano Martinez is on track in his program focused on quality of contact.
Garrison: Are there still a few guys who might not benefit from their programs.
Correa: Unfortunately, yes. There are two guys we drafted this year who are frustrated with their programs right now. Catching prospect Rodger Jones is having a little trouble in his quality of contact program and outfield prospect Emilio Groves is frustrated with his program based on improving his two strike approach.
Garrison: Thanks for the update. Let's keep an eye on their progress and have guys ready to step in once they're done.
