2062.72 Charlotte Prospect Watch-First Base

This is my second article detailing my top prospects at each position at the end of the 2062 minor league season. This article will look at my first basemen.

1 The top 1B prospect in my organization is Larry Horne. I have a couple of other guys who could end up being better than Horne but they are in the IC so I have a hard time making them the top guys on the list. I'll save them for just a bit later. Horne is a 22 year old who plays first base because he can almost play several other positions but would be a subpar defender at any of them. With some defensive bumps he could end up somewhere else, but for now, he's a first baseman. He was originally taken in the 7th round of the 2060 draft and has played at the rookie, short A, A, and AA levels since that time. In 2062, he split time between A and AA, combining for 42 doubles, 12 home runs, and 85 RBI in 138 games. He had a 127 wRC+ in AA after his promotion to that level. Horne is close to reaching his potentials of 6/7/5/7. He hits a lot of doubles but projects to have just average power, which means he is not a prototypical first baseman. I like him, though, and think he may end up seeing some time in the big leagues down the road. Hopefully he can get a little better defensively and become an option as a bit of a utility player.

2 The first of two IC prospects on the list, Murad Hamal is an 18 year old right handed hitter. His potential ratings are 6/6/6/5 and he is a bump or two away from being able to play at third base or maybe even second base in a pinch.

3 The next IC prospect on the list is 17 year old right handed hitter Abdul-Jabbar Nur al Din. His potential ratings are 5/5/7/6. He looks like he could potentially play the outfield or third base with a defensive bump or two as well. He has the best power potential of any of the players on the list.

4 The last player on the list is Miguel Moreno. He was taken in the 10th round of the 2059 draft and played three seasons in short A before finally making the move to A this year. He posted a wRC+ of 129 in those three short A seasons. This year, he slashed .297/.326/.407 with a wRC+ of 98 in Danville. He hit 20 doubles and 6 home runs in 115 games. Moreno's current and potential ratings are 5/5/6/3.
