The Charlotte Flyers made a last minute trade at the deadline to add another frontline starter to their rotation.
Charlotte acquired veteran right handed starting pitcher Bob Anderson from the Jacksonville Zombies. Anderson is 32 years old and has just over 9 years of big league service. He has posted 40.6 career WAR during that time, with a record of 114-90 and an ERA of 4.07 in 296 career games with Jacksonville. He led the league with 19 wins in 2061, and twice led the league in strikeouts. This year, Anderson has made 27 starts with the Zombies, with a 10-8 record and 4.59 ERA. He has a career ERA+ of 111 and will likely make 7 more starts during the regular season with his new team, including one against Jacksonville in Charlotte.
In order to pry Anderson away from the Zombies, the Flyers had to send several promising prospects back to Jacksonville. I'll take a look at those players now.
1B Paul 'Great One" Long was Charlotte's 2nd round pick in 2060 and made his major league debut with the Flyers this year. He appeared in 75 games. He slashed .316/.271/.473, with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs, and 41 RBI. He
2B Jim Pollard was only in Charlotte for a brief time. He was acquired from San Fernando in a trade on June 12, 2062 and played 60 games for the Flyers Short A team in Adirondack. He has the potential to be a quality middle infielder if he develops well.
RHSP Julio Segura was the Flyers 6th round pick in 2060 and showed promising development as a ground ball pitcher with a 4 pitch mix featuring 3 pitches rated with 9 potential. After a rough June, Segura pitched quite well in July and August this season, with an ERA of about 3.08 over 6 starts.
1B Sandor van der Lee has also been listed as a 2B at times. He was signed as an international amateur free agent in January for $1,110,000. He is said to have a great work ethic and high adaptability. Van der Lee should be able to hit for a good average and some power if he fully develops to his potential.
OF Menderis Nedim was another international amateur free agent signing. Charlotte signed him in June for $2,560,000. There are some questions about his character but He looks like he has a lot of potential if he can do what is necessary to reach it. His contact, gap power, and power are all projected to be above average. He also has good speed and some good defensive skills to work with.
