Often times, when your team is struggling, they are playing sub .500 ball. So far in July, the Flyers have struggled in many areas but have done just enough to be 10-9 with one week, containing 7 games remaining. I'm going to look at what has been happening during the month as the club prepares for a week with 3 games against the Boise Spuds and a huge 4 game series against the Charm City Jimmies.
Some players struggling:
Brody Picot joined the club in mid June. After a rough debut with the club he had a strong second start. However, he is 1-1 with an ERA of 11.37 in 3 July starts.
Qing-lai Ou-yang struggled in a short June stint in the starting rotation before returning to the bullpen. In 4 relief appearances in July, Ou-yang has allowed 6 runs in just 4.1 innings for a 12.46 ERA.
Mokichi Nakamura has struggled to a July ERA of 7.59 over 5 appearances.
Cliff Crudge had allowed just 8 runs in 27.2 innings prior to July. He has already allowed 9 runs in just 3.1 innings across 4 July appearances.
Josh Dougherty has been phenomenal on the season but July has not been as good. He has 3 saves in 4 opportunities, but suffered his first blown save of the year. He has allowed 4 runs in the month, giving up 2 runs twice in 5 appearances after only allowing 5 runs in his previous 33. In fact, Dougherty only allowed 1 run across 33 appearances from April 6 to June 30.
Lawrence Stewart has actually been struggling at the plate since the start of June. He is hitting just .237 with an OPS of .684. He is hoping to get back to something closer to his .748 OPS from April and May.
Paul Long has struggled in July after being fantastic in May and June. Long has an OPS of just .582 in July.
Loo Yang continued his offensive struggles, with a July OPS of .597.
Domingo Chavez has struggled mightily in July, slashing .197/.276/.333.
Jose Bedreddin is slashing just .162/.244/.338 in July.
The team has been able to weather the storm a bit while waiting for those guys to work through their struggles due to a few guys who have been very good in July.
Buwono Mainaky has continued to pitch well. He is 1-1 with a 2.52 ERA in July.
After struggling a bit in June, with a 4.81 ERA, Ignacio Lewis has been excellent in July. He is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.70 in 4 July starts.
Arturo Trevino has settled in with his new team with an ERA of 3.44 in 3 July starts.
Jacquot Natta is 3-2 with a 3.22 ERA in July and is slashing .333/.425/.762 with 8 home runs in the month.
Ben Graybill is hitting .271/.343/.542 in the month of July.
