The Charlotte Flyers are having a great May. After a dissapointing 11-16 record through April, The Flyers figured things out and started winning. Heading into Memorial Day, Charlotte has three games remaining in May. They are 21-5 in the first 26 games this month.

On May 1, Charlotte was tied with Brooklyn for last place in the Atlantic Division, 6 games behind first place Charm City. The Flyers had a run differential of -9 at the time. Now, on May 29, the Flyers are half a game back of Charm City with a run differential of +48. They have the second best record in the Johnson League.

While players like Buwono Mainaky, Jacquot Natta, Lawrence Stewart, and Jose Bedreddin have played a big role in Charlotte's success, there are a number of younger, less experienced players who have led the surge.

Ignacio Lewis was acquired late last season in the trade that sent Jim Fleming to Las Vegas. Lewis is a rookie two-way player who is more developed as a pitcher. He has only 6 at bats on the season, without a hit. However, he has been outstanding on the mound. Lewis is tied for the team lead with 5 wins. He is second on the team with an ERA of 3.00. He has pitched 60 innings across 11 starts. The team is 7-4 in games started by Lewis.

Domingo Chavez is a rookie second basemen for Charlotte. He was the team's first round pick in 2060 and has been the starter at the keystone from opening day of the 2062 campaign. Chavez has played in 49 games, slashing .321/.360/.536 with 8 home runs and 31 RBI. He has a 139 wRC+ of 139 and a ZR of 4.26. His 2.0 WAR leads the team going into Memorial Day.

Paul Long is a rookie first baseman and designated hitter. He was the team's second round pick in 2060 and was called up to the big league club after playing just 15 games in AAA to start the year. Since joining the Flyers, Long has played in 33 games, slashing .349/.400/.477 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI. He has a wRC+ of 143 and a WAR of 0.6.

There may be more rookies who have an impact on the club this year as well. Onan Ogun has gotten off to a slow start but is providing solid defens off the bench at multiple defensive positions. Jose Gonzalez is pitching well at AAA and may get a chance to impact the bullpen before the year is out. The team's 2061 first round pick Tony Villa is the other big name to watch as he seems to be finding his footing in AAA and may be ready to join the Flyers at some point this season as well.

Chavez doesn't surprise me and I expect Long to come back down to Earth a bit. But boy, Lewis is pitching really well considering those underdeveloped ratings.
