2060.39 Mendoza has a strange week

Mauro Mendoza had a strange week.

On Monday, July 19, he pitched against the Calgary Pioneers. He was very good. He allowed only 4 hits over 7 innings. His worst inning was the 4th, when he walked the first 2 batters of the inning and allowed one of them to score on a single. Despite his excellent start, Menodoza picked up his 7th loss of the season because Shinsui Hasegawa was just a little better. Hasegawa allowed just 2 hits in 7 shoutout innings for the win.

Five days later, Mendoza took the mound on the road against the Rocky Mountain Oysters. With 2 out and a man in in the 2nd inning, Mendoza induced a ground ball that should have ended the inning. Unfortunately, Elvan Masuki couldn’t pick the ball up cleanly and 2 batters later, the Flyers were down 3-0 on 3 unearned runs. Andy Bishop, Tadataka Yoshikawa, and Jorge Trujillo each hit home runs to give Charlotte a lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. Masuki committed another error, allowing a runner on to lead off the inning. Mendoza allowed a 4th unearned run to score when Sloth Fratelli singled. That hit sent Mendoza to the showers. Tulon Koruturk gave up a double to the first man he saw, and then a sacrifice fly to the next, scoring Fratelli for the only earned run the Oysters would score on the day. That run was charged to Mendoza. Koruturk then allowed 2 more unearned runs to score before securing the final out. Mendoza was tagged with his 8th loss of the season.

So, Mendoza allowed 2 earned runs on 11 hits and 4 walks in 14 innings and came away with 2 losses.

Like I said, Mendoza had a strange week.
