In this edition of Flight Log, a look at the 2058 season for the Charlotte Flyers.

The Charlotte Flyers finished 78-84 in 2057. It was their 4th consecutive season with a losing record. Fans were hopeful that would change going into the 2058 campaign and the team did not disappoint. The Flyers finished 91-72 after winning a tiebreaker game against the Las Vegas Hustlers and earning a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2051. While the team was unable to get past Montreal in the Geohagen Round, they played a tight series and provided the city with many exciting moments throughout the year. Attendance at home games was up by more than 300,000 fans to a total of 3,150,019. It was the 1st time since 2053 that the team drew over 3 million fans. It was the 2nd highest attendance total since 2048. The team made several moves throughout the season the strengthen to roster, adding big name starting pitchers, Juan Marroquín and Jim Fleming who made strong contributions down the stretch. Another big trade brought in All-Star closer Alejandro Chavez who helped transform the bullpen.

Let’s take a look at some of the player who were key contributors this season.

POSITION PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

2B Dallas Dixon
Dixon set a new franchise record by posting 6.5 WAR, a .373 batting average, an OBP of .428, and a franchise record tying 57 stolen bases. Dixon was the man who made the engine go all season. It was disappointing to see him miss out of the playoffs with an injury in the 160tj game of the year.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR:

SP Little Johnny Rasmussen
Rasmussen joined the Flyers in 2057 and had a productive year, winning 11 games and earning an extension. This year, Rasmussen finished with a record of 16-8 and an ERA of 3.69. His 205 innings pitched led the team.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
Andrew McLean
McLean was signed as a minor league free agent last offseason and made the ball club out of Spring Training. He appeared in 47 games, pitching 67.1 innings. He finished the year with a 4-1 record and a 3.74 ERA. He posted a FIP- of 94.
