2058.65 Flight Log-It All Comes Down to This (Week 26)

Four days ago, there were so many possibilities. Now, there are two. After splitting their series with the Charm City Jimmies, the Flyers find themselves in a situation where they either win and continue into the postseason, or they lose and they fly back to Charlotte trying to figure out how to take the next step in 2059.

Juan Marroquin is the most likely man to take the mound for Charlotte. He has a 2.65 ERA in 5 September starts but this will be the first game he starts on short rest. How he handles that may have a lot to do with whether the team plays again in 2058.

Dallas Dixon posted 6.5 WAR before going down with an injury on Wednesday that will keep him off the field in game 163, and beyond if they win. Only one other player has ever posted 6.0 WAR in a season for Charlotte. That was Robert Menzies, the man who will come off the injured list to try to fill the hole in the lineup left by Dixon’s absence.

The Flyers have won 90 games this year. It’s the most since 2051 and only the 3rd time the team has been over .500 since 2049. They must win 91 to advance to the playoffs. If the Flyers can win this game, the heroes of the contest will be remembered in Charlotte forever. If they lose, the fans will go back to work on Monday wishing they had something to cheer for as they wonder how their beloved team will disappoint them in 2059.
