The Flyers played 7 games this week, winning only 3 of them. They started with a 4 game set in Phoenix. The Talons took an early 3-1 lead and extended it to 4-1 in the 4th. Charlotte battled back and tied the game in the 7th, with 3 straight RBI singles by Farid bin Mubarak,Dallas Dixon and Robert Menzies. In the 8th inning, Little Johnny Rasmussen gave up 2 hits to start the inning before being lifted from the game. Felix Camarco came into the game and the first batter reached on an error to load the bases. He retired the next 2 batters but then walked a run in before getting out of the inning. The Talons won 5-4.
Game 2 was a back and forth affair. Dixon gave the Flyers a late lead with a 2 run single in the 8th inning but Alejandro Chavez gave up a run in the 9th to tie the game and the Talons walked it off in the 10th for a 4-3 win.
Game 3 was tied 1-1 after 9 and 2-2 after 11. Then Phoenix walked it off again for a 3-2 win in 14 innings.
The Flyers avoided the sweep in game 4 with an offensive onslaught. The team hit 4 home runs, including a grand slam by Fawwaz Amin in a 10 run 6th inning. Charlotte won the game 16-8.
Game 1 at home against Mexico City featured 2 Charlotte errors and 4 unearned runs as the Aztecs won 9-4.
The offense returned in the next game as the Flyers scored 15 runs on 20 hits to pick up a 15-5 win.
In the final game of the week, Mauro Mendoza pitched well and earned his 9th win of the year and Dallas Dixon hit his 2nd home run of the season as the Flyers won 11-2.
The worst news of the week is that Robert Menzies suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss 3-4 weeks. For the time being, the Flyers are expected to use Andy Bishop as their primary shortstop in Tosser’s absence.
