In this edition of Flight Log, we take a quick look at the last week of games for the Flyers.

Overall this week seemed fine. The team went 3-4, losing one game in the standings to Montreal and falling farther behind New Orleans. Digging a little deeper into the week’s games paints an interesting picture.

The week began with the final two games in the series in Edmonton. A 5-1 loss and a 14-3 win secured a series split against the last place team in the Frontier Division. Josh Clark was solid but got his second loss of the season in the first game and Andres Gonzales earned the win in the next game with his second consecutive strong outing since returning from the injured list. Dallas Dixon, Manny Toledo, and Banger Dan all made significant contributions at the plate.

The Flyers then lost 3 out of 4 games in Calgary. The first two games were 1-run losses (5-4 and 4-3 in 13 innings). The third game was a 6-2 loss and the Flyers avoided the sweep with a 7-5 win in the finale.

The Flyers followed that up with a home win against Boise to open a series that will continue next week.

That brings their road record for the month to 8-6 and their home record for May to 8-2. The Flyers most recent road trip was 8 games against the Frontier. They went 3-5 in that stretch. That stretch is a bit concerning. The next 5 weeks see the Flyers play the vast majority of their games at Family Dollar Field, where they have a record of 14-8. They will need to continue to play at a high level at home, as they play only 6 games on the road from now through June. Once July hits, they go on the road against the Frontier, playing 22 of their 26 July contests away from Charlotte. The final series in July is against New Orleans, as they get back to facing off against the Atlantic. Even if the Flyers can play around .500 ball in July, they are going to need to be very good ball in June to counteract the extended period on the road that is coming. Willing 3 out of every 8 on the road in July could put the team out of contention
