In this edition of Flight Log, we look at the top 3 prospects at second base in the Charlotte Flyers farm system going into the 2058 season.

1. The top second base prospect is Ra’id bin Tamir. He is as acquired via waivers in September of 2056 and spent 21 days with the big league club, getting into 1 game and getting a single in his only at bat. He was sent to AAA Richmond for the 2057 season, where he hit 27 home runs and drove in 78. His .221 batting average is somewhat misleading, as he was hovering around .190 for the first two months of the season. August was his best month, hitting .300 with an .814 OPS. He won’t walk much and he’s going to strike out more than you would like, but he can hit the ball a long way and has the skills to play at multiple infield and outfield positions. He posted a 3.9 ZR at 2B for Richmond.

2. The next best second baseman in the system is Marco Skinner. I’m not sold on him being able to play second at the big league level. He’s much more likely to need to play a corner infield position instead, but he played most of his games at second this season so we will put him on this list for now. Skinner started the season in Danville, where he slashed .309/.356/.515 with 9 home runs in 50 games for a wRC+ of 131. He then moved up to AA Nee Bern, where he slashed .270/.339/.500 with 18 home runs in 83 games for a wRC+ of 129. On the season, he posted a combined 3.6 WAR between the two leagues. He strikes out to much but has a lot of other nice offensive skills.

3. The third second base prospect on the list is Orlando Arevalo. He was recently discovered and added to the team’s International Complex at 16 years old. Not much is known about him and he has a long way to go to reach his potential but his scouting report claims that he has the potential to be a big league hitter. His defense is more suspect. We will keep an eye on him and see if he progresses in the future.

Tamir is a classic all or nothing kind of guy.
