In this edition of Flight Log, a look at the 2057 season for the Charlotte Flyers A team, the Danville Dodos.
The Dodos finished the 2057 season with a record of 69-71, in 4th place in the West Central division of the Charley Pegler League, 26 games out of 1st place. Their 69 wins were a dramatic improvement over the team’s 53 wins in 2056.
POSITION PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
DH/OF Jack Roach
Roach had an awful season in 2056. He hit 30 home runs but had a batting average of only .168 and posted -3 WAR. In 2057, he hit another 27 home runs, but his other numbers were much improved. Roach slashed .259/.346/.494, hitting 23 doubles and 3 triples along with the home runs. His wRC+ was 122. If he could play defense he would have ended up with more WAR, but he did make an appearance in the field in 11 games this season, mostly in the outfield.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR:
SP Sharif Qutuz
Qutuz had the best year of his career in 2057. The southpaw 10-9 with a 3.92 ERA in 154 innings over 28 starts. He had only once had an ERA below 5 prior to this season. Qutuz was the team leader in wins, ERA, and strikeouts this season and ended the year with 2.4 WAR.
