2057.80 Flight Log Week 26 Recap

Post by Krathan » Wed Jan 17, 2024 3:31 pm

In this edition of Flight Log, a look at the final 4 games of the 2057 season and a couple of contract extensions.

The Charlotte Flyers went into the last 4 games of the season with a record of 77-81, needing to win all 4 games to end the year with a .500 record. They played 1 game against the New Orleans Crawdads and 3 against the Rockville Pikemen.

The game against New Orleans was the finale of a 4 game series that the Flyers had lost 2 of the previous 3. The game featured the Crawdads catcher Jim Inman, who hit 2 home runs and drove in 4. Charlotte’s lone run came in the 9th inning on a home run by Fawwaz Amin. John Rasmussen III allowed 4 runs in the 3rd and 2 more in the 7th. Both of Inman’s home runs came against Rasmussen. New Orleans won the game 7-1 and the Flyers were guaranteed a losing record on the season.

The first game against Rockville was a pitching duel between Charlotte’s Patrick Rasmussen and Rockville’s Joe MacIndoe. Both pitchers allowed 1 run and left the game tied. Each team scored again in the 8th and the game went to the bottom of the 9th tied at 2. With Liam Johnston pitching for the Flyers, the Pikemen came up with a 1 out triple followed by a walk-off RBI single to win the game 3-2.

The second game also featured outstanding starting pitching. This time, it was Andres Gonzales for the Flyers and Danny Leach for Rockville. Like in the series opener, the starters left the game with the score tied at 1. Also like the series opener, the Rockville bullpen was more effective than the Charlotte relievers. Rockville once again won 3-2.

The final game of the series and the season was one of Buwono Mainaky’s best performances of the year. He allowed no runs on 3 hits and a walk over 8.2 innings to earn his 9th win of the season. The offense was fueled by a Fuad Demirel home run and a 2 home run, 5 RBI performance by Manny Toledo. For Toledo, that means that he has hit 42 home runs and 122 RBI on the year. For Toledo, those are not only career highs (previous highs of 26 and 76), but that is the single season home run record and the 2nd highest single season RBI total in Charlotte franchise history. The Flyers won the game 10-0.

After the game, the team announced that they had come to terms on extensions for two players. John Rasmussen III and Manny Toledo.

Rasmussen signed a 2 year contract with a team option for 2060. He will make $4 million in 2058 and $5 in 2059. If the team picks up the option for 2060, he will make another $5 million. If not, he will be paid a $1 million buyout. Rasmussen had one of his best years in the BBA in 2057 with the Flyers. His 3.4 WAR is the second highest total of his career. His 93 FIP- is the best of his career. And his 4.13 FIP is the second best of his career. The Flyers are hoping he can build on that success going forward.

Manny Toledo also signed a 2 year contract with a team option for 2060. Toledo will make $5.75 million each year of the contract. If the team decides not to pick up the 2060 option, he will be paid a $1.5 million buyout. Toledo had the best season of his career in 2057 with the Flyers. He posted career highs in WAR (3.1), wRC+ (133), OPS (.897), RBI (122), HR (42), and 2B (29).

Those contract extensions will be excellent bargains if they can maintain their 2057 production.

That’s my thought too. When I realized they were would accept those deals, it seemed like a no-brainer.
