2057.68 Flight Log-Week 17 Recap

In this edition of Flight Log, a rough week on the field against good teams.

The Charlotte Flyers are going to have to beat some good teams if they want to earn a Wild Card spot and experience playoff baseball. This week was an opportunity for them to try to do just that. However, despite playing mostly close games, the Flyers did not end up with the results they were hoping for.

The Flyers started the week with 4 games in Las Vegas. John Rasmussen III pitched 6 strong innings in the opener but the offense couldn’t give him the support her needed. He lost his 7th straight decision as the Hustlers won 2-1.

Game 2 was highlighted by Las Vegas starter Mahad Einan, who pitched 7.2 shutout innings as the Hustlers won 3-0.

The 3rd game was a much different type of contest. The Charlotte offense finally came to life, including a home run by Mahine Karetu and two more homers by Manny Toledo. The Flyers picked up the win 8-6.

The series finale went 11 innings. Tom Bates put Charlotte ahead 4-2 with a 3 run blast in the 8th but the Hustlers got 1 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to tie it up. The game ended when Helmut Grun crushed a walk-off homer to lead off the 11th.

Charm City then came to Family Dollar Field for a 3 game set. Manny Toledo’s 3 run home run led an offensive outpouring in the opener as the Flyers took the game 12-4.

In game 2, Charlotte blew a late lead again and lost 6-4 in 11 innings.

The series finale was an ugly one for the Flyers as Andres Gonzales had probably his worst outing of the season and the Jimmies won 9-2.

There were several close games and the Flyers could have won 2 or 3 more than they did, but that’s not how it went. The 2-5 week dropped the Flyers to 2.5 games behind the final Wild Card spot.
