C-Notes 2051.13 - Cougars Getting Ready

Post by GoldenOne » Sun Jul 24, 2022 11:55 am

The Charlotte Cougars are gearing up for the home stretch to the 2051 season. While there was surprisingly no last-minute deadline deals (though the Cougars made their moves a ew weeks earlier), there also werent many places that made sense for GM Golden to go out and try and improve.

The one deadline move that was made was the release of last season's JL Egan Award winner, RP Augusto Ramírez. Perhaps due to the recency of that Egan Award, Ramirez was given a much longer leash than most GMs would have given him. After 45 games, Ramirez has gone 2-3 with 5 saves while throwing an ERA of 8.89, a WHIP of 1.92, a .364 BABIP, and a 8.40 FIP. In his place, the Cougars brought up RP Jae-ho Chang from AAA Richmond. Chang was expected to join the big league club next season but was brought up early this season to make him eligible for the post-season with the departure of Ramirez. So far in 6 games with the big league club, Chang has gone 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Lefties are seeming to have more trouble with Chang, going a combined 1 for 18 at the plate.

Looking ahead, with 28 games scheduled for September, and a seemingly unfair 11-game road trip to end the season, GM Golden is sure to bring up a few other pitchers to help out his, what can only be explained as a, tired pitching staff. A staff that had been ranked in the top 3 of most categories but has seen it rankings slide into the 5+ range as far as ERA is concerned.

While a Division title may still be a long-shot, the Cougars have not yet given up hope. With 28 games left and a 4-game series against the league-leading Crawdads in the final week of the season, anything can happen.
