C-Notes 2051.09 - Fresh Cougars

Post by GoldenOne » Wed Jun 15, 2022 1:26 pm

As you may recall, OF Pedro Huerta was recently traded to the Jacksonville Hurricanes for Julio Uribe, who was summarily released before the ink on the trade was dry. That trade, and the release of several other players, left the Charlotte Cougars about $15M under the league's salary cap. The Cougars wasted no time in spending that extra money.

First, 2B/3B Jesus Yan was signed for a 1-year, $5.5M contract. The well traveled Yan has seemed to hit his stride in the last couple of seasons and has continued those trends in 2051 with the Cougars. Through 7 games in Charlotte, Yan is hitting .300/.440/.300. GM Golden had this to say about Yan: "Yan fits in The Plan®. Great defender, gets on base, and can run. Hopefully Yan finds he likes Charlotte and we can find a way to keep him here for a few more years."

Just a few days later, it seems that GM Golden couldnt contain himself. The shopping bug hit him again and this time he brought two players back to Charlotte. The first player was 1B Masaki 'Icon' Sato, who was signed for 1-year at $2M. Sato was obviously brought in to help the team against right-handed pitching, as the team is only 15-11 against righties so far this year. "Icon had some success in the GBC. His past BBA stats are not quite as good. We are going to limit his exposure to left-handed pitching and keep those legs fresh by keeping him off the field. We are going to do everything we can to make sure Icon succeeds," said Golden.

Perhaps the biggest grab in this most recent Free Agency shopping spree was 3B Blaine Tyler. Tyler struggled in his 100 games with Charlotte in 2050. His .223/.291/.422 were a far cry from his career .250/.335/.497 numbers. Asked why he would spend $7M to give Tyler another chance, Golden commented:

"Look, the whole team stunk last season. This year's team is humming along so far and Blaine wont have as much pressure on him to perform as he did last season. And, we moved the fences in this offseason so hopefully he gets excited about that. I know the fans are happy to see him back and I am too."

Go Cougars!!

Really liked Yan in Madison- was on a 1 year prove it deal. Wanted waaaaaay to much to sign after that. Performed like crap in playoffs for us hitting under .200

Yan is very inconsistent. Always does well on a contract year though…

I could get him for cheap on a one-year deal. Wants more than what I can pay for an extension. But, I'll take his .342/.388/.479 for the year he is here though!
