C-Notes 2051.06 - Cougars on the Hunt

Post by GoldenOne » Fri Jun 03, 2022 10:27 am

The Charlotte Cougars have done something they arent used to doing - they have started the season off on a hot streak! Okay, we get it, taking 2 of 3 from Edmonton, at home, doesnt cause a lot of people to take notice.

However, Cougars fans are excited about the way the team started the season. The Charlotte Cougars swept a 2-game opening series, on the road, against an expected playoff team in the Atlantic City Gamblers. The scores? 7-1 and 8-2 - not quite the "eeking out a win" kind of game the Cougars were known for last season.

While the Cougars were a decent road team last season (they were right around .500 in road games), they tended to struggle against better pitching while on the road. So, when facing SP Carlos Flores, on the road, noting Charlotte's previous years of slow starts, even the most diehard Cougars fans were mostly happy Opening Day was here and were not overly expectant to see their team get a win.

However, there is a new excitement in the Clubhouse this season. Spring Training seemed to be a time of comradery and this team seems to think it has a chance to win, no matter who they are facing. So, on this Opening Day, when they were facing the winner of the JL Nebraska for 2 of the last 3 seasons (with a 2nd place thrown in there as well), on the road, even when it was 0-0 after 5 innings, this Cougar team still seemed loose and ready to roll.

And that is exactly what they did in the 6th and 7th innings - they tagged Carlos Flores for 6 earned runs, with RF Aaron Haney opening up the flood gates with his 2-RBI double in the 6th.

And let's not forget that pitching staff. The Gamblers have a lineup of 7-8 guys that can really do some damage. However, SP Haravira Chandar led the charge with 5.2 innings of no-run baseball. The bullpen managed to follow suit with the only Gambler run on the day being unearned.

Can he Cougars continue this hot streak? Not if history always repeats itself. Let's hope this year's Cougars are reading more Penthouse Forums than they are Charlotte Cougars Forums.
