C-Notes 2051.05 - Small - Cox
In line with the part of The Plan® that tells Charlotte Cougars GM Brett Golden to "Make your team better and figure out the roster moves later," there has been a trade in Charlotte.
GM Golden has stated he feels a tingle that this could be a great season for the Charlotte Cougars. However, with the recent loss of stamina for P Michael Dixon following a year missed for a torn labrum and his subsequent move to the bullpen, GM Golden decided the rotation needed another pitcher. (By the way, moving Dixon to the bullpen could easily see him as the team's new closer.)
So, GM Golden threw his net out wide and came away with LHP Dan Small from the Charm City Jimmies. The 4-year veteran has been a work-horse for the Jimmies and has done nothing but improve every season, finishing in the Top 10 in almost all pitching categories last season. His 4.0 average WAR over the last two seasons should easily outpace the WAR Dixon would have seen.
In exchange for Small, Golden may have tossed in the near future for the Cougars - meaning Small better work out or Golden may see himself burned in effigy before too long. Leaving the organization is CF Mike Cox (AAA), P Logan Carroll (AAA), P Robin Riddle (A), and SS Kasib Qaraja (S A).
While Riddle was a couple of seasons away before make it to the big leagues, Cox was expected to contribute to the ML club at some point this season.
When asked to comment, GM Golden said "Cox was hard to let go of. But, GM Dave Burcicki wouldn't let Cox go, saying at one point, "I still need some Cox.""

The meat of the order for the Cougars.... Small, Dixon, Cox... came up a bit short today.
