C-Notes 2051.02 - Is It Time to Change the Egan Award Name?

Post by GoldenOne » Fri May 20, 2022 7:52 pm

If someone from your team wins the same end-of-year award for 5 straight seasons, does your club have a claim on having the name of the award after its organization?

The Charlotte Cougars have now won the Jason Egan Award as the best Reliever in the League for five straight seasons! An even crazier feat is that it was done with 3 different closers.

Much like last year, Charlotte Cougars' Closer Augusto Ramírez was the easy choice. The 29-year old appeared in 64 games, 68 innings, going 2-5 with 22 saves. His 2.12 ERA was complimented by a nice 0.76 WHIP. He closed out the year with 146 strikeouts to only 24 walks and a surprisingly low 10 HRs given up.

This is the last season on Ramírez's contract and based on how previous closers have fared in Charlotte, combined with the rumors of what Ramírez is asking for an extension, who will the Cougars be looking to to be the next in line of Egan winners for the team? Early choices have Pablo 'Cushion' Alcantara, who is signed for cheap for the next 5 seasons, or Jae-ho Chang who was just converted to a full-time reliever and is still a season or two away from hitting his arbitration years.

Either way, fans in Charlotte can look forward to a Egan award finalists (winners?) for many more seasons to come!
