The Charlotte Observer has learned that the GM Brett Golden of the Charlotte Cougars has been suspended for a week and fined $100,000.
The League Offices would not comment on the reason for the suspension or fine.
The Charlotte Cougars Front Office would not acknowledge that a fine or suspension had even been handed down to the GM.
After further investigation, the Observer reached out to the Jacksonville Hurricanes for some information. The anonymous source said, “I’ll tell you exactly why that SOB is getting fined and suspended. He trashed the Visitor’s Clubhouse! I mean, its like a war zone in there. Its worse than how the place looked after we won the Championship in 2039. He’s the freaking GM, he should have a little more restraint and respect when he is in someone else’s house! Frankly, I’d be surprised if 100K actually covers the final expenses.”
We can only assume that GM Golden tirade was due to his team’s performance to start off the season. While its tough to start out the season with 8 of 12 games on the road (9 of 13 by the time the Jacksonville series is over), for a team with the expectations the Cougars have for this season, a 3-9 record to start is a big hole to dig out of.
Right now, the Cougars are near the bottom of the league Power Rankings, with only Des Moines and Edmonton having less wins that the Cougars. (And, one of Edmonton’s 2 wins came at the expense of the Cougars, in Charlotte.
The BBN predicted Charlotte would win 87 games this season and be one of the top 2 Wild Card teams. And those predictions came before Rafael Gutierrez, Aires Penharanda, and Omer Dijkstra joined the team.
While we can certainly understand GM Golden’s, let’s say, concern, for the team’s performance so far, we can all agree that perhaps his “stress relief” methods are not as acceptable as they may have been 30+ years ago. Hopefully the Cougars players don’t know the difference and can respond in a positive manner and start racking up some wins.
