C-Notes 2048.10 - Cougar Fight

Post by GoldenOne » Wed Oct 27, 2021 1:23 pm

With only two weeks left to the season, the Charlotte Cougars find themselves in a fight to win a 2nd straight Atlantic Division crown. The Cougars found themselves in roughly the same position last season, needing to come back from a few games down to beat the Jacksonville Hurricanes in the last week of the 2047 season. In 2048, the Cougars find themselves 3.5 games back of the Hurricanes yet again.

Can the Cougars make a final push to get to the top again? Based on how they have been playing this season, its possible. After starting the year with a disappointing April going 14-12 (a .538 winning percentage), they bounced back and went a nice 21-8 in May (.724). Then there was a dreadful June where they went 12-15 (.444) and then followed that with an 18-7 July (.720). August was a fight, going 13-16 (.448) but so far in September, the Cougars are maintaining the patter and are currently 9-3 (.750), half way through the month.

The Hurricanes currently maintain an 86.2% chance to win the Division. The Cougars, 9.2%. Remaining strength of schedule does not favor the Cougars either - the Cougars will be facing opponents with a winning percentage of .521. The Hurricanes, .486. And, with those pesky Atlantic City Gamblers only 1 game behind the Cougars and facing teams with a .468 winning percentage, we cant take them out of the equation just yet either.

Looking at the schedule for these final two weeks, the Cougars do seem to have a slight edge. With series remaining at home against Rockville at Atlantic City it just might be the home series next week against the Division-leading Hurricanes that could decide the fate of the Cougars this season. The part where we hold out hope - the season record against all three of those teams favors the Cougars. The Cougars are 8-5 this season against Rockville, 7-6 against Atlantic City, and 7-6 against those Hurricanes.

Hold onto your hats folks, its going to be an exciting ride!
