C-Notes 2048.02 - Gill, Gone

Post by GoldenOne » Thu Sep 09, 2021 2:52 pm

With several young prospects knocking on the door in Charlotte, those that just barely made the team out of Spring Training should be aware that the leash will be short. The first casualty of this short-leash is 1B Bryan Gill. Gill was on the team to come off the bench and provide that late-inning, much-needed HR power to the Cougars. After 10 games and 32 ABs, Gill's slash line of .156/.250/.156 just wasnt cutting it. With no HRs, 8 strikeouts, and only 3 walks, Gill found himself Designated for Assignment with a bus ticket to AAA Richmond before he was fully unpacked at his rental apartment in Charlotte.

While GM Golden had several options for Gill's replacement, he decided to go with 29 year old 1B Michael Blankenship. While Blankenship has slightly less power than Gill, his defense will allow him to spend more time in the field than Gill would have been entrusted with. At AAA Richmond, Blankenship was hitting .329/.358/.586 in 70 ABs, with 3 HRs, 19 RBIs, and only 11 strikeouts.
