C-Notes 2046.11 - Smallwood to Start

Post by GoldenOne » Wed Apr 21, 2021 11:28 am

Charlotte Pitcher Kyle Smallwood (Charlotte's 2046 1st round pick, #5 overall) will get his chance in the rotation this coming week. With SP Emilio Brazini sent to the IL with back spasms, Charlotte has decided give Smallwood a chance in the midst of a heated race to the playoffs.

In his 7 games played since being called up at the end of August, Smallwood has gone 13.2 innings with an ERA of 0.66, a WHIP of 0.44, and striking out 20 batters while only walking 2.

When asked about the opportunity, Smallwood commented, "Its crazy. It was only 4 months ago I was in college and now I'm getting the chance to help out a playoff contender. I just want to perform really well for my teammates and all the women that will want to get with me now."

Hard to see what he had to prove in the minors.

Wasnt really much but I didnt/dont have too many guys with any options where I could get him up earlier. Luckily Brooks still had options, and needed time to get right.

Looks like he's pitched a little better out of the pen...but it's only one start. The stamina may be an issue going forward as a starter.

He's on a limit of 75 pitches. I'll still take 5.0 innings of 6-hit, 2-ER, 4 K, and 1 BB ball. Overall, only 1 HR in 21 innings too. Its all good. He will most likely be in the pen for the playoffs so we'll see what happens.

I've started a guy with a 3/4 stamina for 2 seasons and he did pretty well. His control should be decent enough to get him through as well. Plus, helps to have the #1 bullpen in the JL too! :)
