C-Notes 2046.04 - Match-up of the Week

Post by GoldenOne » Sun Feb 28, 2021 6:04 pm

Since the Charlotte Cougars came into existence in 2040, there hasnt been much of a national buzz or really even a reason to watch them play outside of the Charlotte area. There are two match-ups this coming week that a much wider range of people will be watching.

The Edmonton Jackrabbits have made it to the Landis/Monty Championship 3 times and won it twice (and are last season's champions) in the few short years that the Cougars have been around. With both teams seeing Opening Day predictions of winning their divisions this year, this early season showdown from these two teams should generate quite some excitement. Within this coming week's series, two games will see a little more excitement than the others.

Tue, Apr 17th should see SP Lando Klomp face off against Cougar's SP Armando 'Commie Child' Feliciano. Klomp is off to a great start this season, going 2-0 in 3 games with a 3.32 ERA with 11 Ks to 3 walks in 19 innings. Commie Child is no slouch this season either, going 2-0 in 3 games with a 1.23 ERA with 15 Ks and 1 walk in 14.2 innings.

Wed, Apr 18th should see SP Amos Swallows, previously a highly touted prospect and former #1 overall draft pick of the Cougars, face off against Cougars SP Francisco Franco. Swallows had an amazing year last season and is picking up where he left off, going 3-0 in 3 starts, with a 2.38 ERA and 18 Ks with 8 walks in 22.2 innings. Franco was up and down last season but has started the season off quietly this year, going 1-0 in 3 games with an ERA of 2.35, a WHIP of 0.91, and 8 Ks and 3 walks in 15.1 innings.

These match-ups may come down to some low scoring affairs. Add to that, Edmonton is a rough 2-5 at home (though 5-1 on the road) and the Cougars may have a shot at picking up a couple of wins. Although, the Cougars are 1-5 on the road (though 4-2 at home) so with two great pitchers on the mound, guessing the winners here will be tough.

Either way, these games will be interesting to watch!

Update -

Commie Child got the better of his match-up with Klomp. Klomp got the loss, giving up 4 ERs in 6.2 innings, 4 Ks, and no walks. Commie Child got the no-decision, giving up 2 ERs in 5.2 innings, 4 Ks, and no walks.

Cougar Manager, Jason Ramsey, decided to go with Hector Fuentes to start against Amos Swallows instead of Franco. Swallows got the win, giving up 1 ER in 7 innings while Fuentes gave up 3 ERs in 5.21 innings, picking up the loss.

Franco did pitch the next night, in El Paso, going 6.2 innings, 0 ERs, 7 Ks and no walks, getting the win against the Chilis.
