While highly unlikely to have any real affect on where the Cougars finish in the standings this season, it is surely going to have an affect in 2046.

On Monday, 28 August 2045, SP Thomas Turner, this year's #3 overall draft pick, left the game against the Milwaukee Choppers after the second inning looking like he was having some discomfort in his elbow. A more thorough exam was completed by the Charlotte Cougars' team doctor, I-po Zou, who left the team in Brooklyn to examine Turner himself.

Dr. Zou has determined that Turner has a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and will be out of service for approximately 9 months. While Turner was on pace to start the 2046 season in Charlotte's rotation, Cougars fans will not have to wait until June to see how their young star will perform on the big stage.

Turner jumped straight from college and the draft to Charlotte's AAA team, the RIchmond Panthers. In his 16 games with RIchmond, Turner was 6-1 with a 3.41 ERA (89.2 innings), a 0.99 WHIP, with 16 walks and 86 strikeouts this season.

While it is hard to replace someone with Turner's talent, LHP Héctor Fuentes will most likely be relied on even more than was expected of him. Fuentes was called up a couple of weeks ago to replace LHP Ashton Brooks following his torn flexor tendon in his elbow that will see him miss the next 11 months. In his 3 starts since being called up, Fuentes is 1-0 with a 5.63 ERA (16 innings), a 1.19 WHIP, 2 walks, and 11 strikeouts.

Ouch. That's a bummer.
