C-Notes 2045.09 - Two New Guys

The Charlotte Cougars brought in two new players ahead of this week's trade deadline. Packing their bags and heading to Charlotte are LF Héctor 'Dominator' Cruz (from Des Moines) and 2B Marvin Isworth (from Mexico City.)

Cruz, obtained for International Prospect, Catcher Shi-min Xi, has been struggling this year with a .194/.254/.339 slash line in 65 games. Cruz has never really lived up to his potential but was batting .309/.360/.603 last season before going down for the year with a broken kneecap. GM Golden said of Cruz, "We like Hector. We're definitely going to see if he is interested in sticking around in Charlotte for a few more years. We think the way he was playing last season, that is a little more in line with what we think he can do with some regular playing time."

Isworth, obtained for A ball 2B Isat Kasturirangan, has been having a fine season, batting .312/.331/.438 in Mexico City, but was not projected to bring in a Compensation Pick this offseason so the Aztecs made him available. Isworth definitely creates an even larger logjam in the already over-populated infield of the Cougars. But, it will be interesting to see what GM Golden has in mind for the offseason should Isworth be signed to an extension.

Well, with the Cougars looking at a steep (though not impossible) climb to a playoff spot this season, at least fans can keep up their excitement by watching what GM Golden has planned for these two new acquisitions, as well as the rest of the players on the team. Stay tuned!
