C-Notes 2045.02 - The Trade

Post by GoldenOne » Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:09 pm

Based on the number of attempts that he has made, it should come as no surprise to anyone that GM Golden was looking to trade for a perennial, young All Star that he could anchor his team around for years to come. That looks like it may have come to fruition this offseason with the acquisition of SS/CF Robert 'Tosser' Menzies.

Menzies is about to enter his 5th season in the BBA and is a career .288/.400/.387 hitter while posting a 12.8 WAR in approximately 3 full seasons of games. Oh yeah, he also plays elite defense at both SS and CF. Considering that Menzies has two more years of arbitration left, it would be wise for the Cougars to try and lock him up long-term as soon as possible.

When asked about Menzies, GM Golden had this to say - "We've been trying to bring Robert to Charlotte for a while now. We tried hard 2 years ago when we dangled Dave Lee in front of Edmonton but that deal just got to be too big for the liking. It hurt when Menzies was traded shortly after talks broke off between us and Edmonton to see Robert end up in Portland."

"We've been talking with a lot of folks. We felt like we finally had a good gaggle of prospects we could offer to teams in exchange for just the right guy. Portland hadn't been shopping Robert but I took a chance and made a call. Talks moved quick, and then they expanded and grew. They were in that sweet spot where you were getting better but at a slower rate than what you hoped and when we made our huge, 10 player offer for their 3, Portland decided they had to pull the trigger and rebuild their rebuild."

"Look, we took a HUGE hit to our farm system with this trade. Yes, 5 of the guys had at least some BBA experience and would have been in Charlotte this season, and the pitchers we gave up....man, that was like waxing my balls, it hurt so much. But, when Robert, Francisco, and Bartolo stepped into the clubhouse down here in Sopchoppy to get ready for spring training, I was like a fresh intern being told he had to give [Portland AGM] Kate Fiscus a sponge bath!"

"Cant wait for the season to get started!"

Well, a 4-0 start to the season..... Looks like everything is coming up roses for Charlotte now.

And interns don't give Kate her bath. That's left to minor leaguers who need a little "boost" in their performance.
