C-Notes 2044.05 - At Least It Wasnt Another Pitcher

Post by GoldenOne » Wed Sep 16, 2020 3:36 pm

With this year's draft not being one that has GMs salivating, its nice to be picking near the top. (Of course, depending on how you look at it, it also means that your last 3 seasons your team stunk!) Since its inception in 2040, this is the first season that the Cougars have not had the overall pick, even while still having the worst record in the league in 2043.

In their first season (2040), the Cougars thought they had the SS cornerstone that they could build their franchise around. Turns out, looks like Quinn Richardson might be the cornerstone SS that the San Fernando Bears keeps building around (though if this season continues the way it is going, SFB might think otherwise.)

Since then, the Cougars have drafted three straight pitchers as the #1 overall pick. Oh yeah, trading two of them before their Cougars gear even arrived at their house. Last year's pick, P Warren 'Prickly Pear' Moore, finds himself in AAA Richmond and seems to be coming along nicely.

This year the Cougars plan from the beginning was to draft CF Mike 'Brodty' Brodt. Sometimes 4 years of college will do you wonders in more ways than one. Mike hit his stride in his junior year and is continuing to get better this, his senior, season.

Mike makes great contact and has a great eye. His gap, power, and ability to avoid Ks is fairly average, as is his speed and base running abilities. However, Mike also excels in the field with his glove and his range will fit nicely in the spacious Family Dollar Field in Charlotte. Those 4 years of college also gave Mike time to develop a strong work ethic, show how smart he is, and turn him into a strong leader in the locker room. Oh yeah, he also has a little bit of pitching experience. Not quite enough to try and find him a way to the mound, but he could be that first position player the coach may look to in one of those FUBAR games.

Welcome to Charlotte Mike!

Since he's in your org (and your ammy), we need you to confirm his pronunciation, as a previous podcast had questions.
