The Charlotte Cougars ended April with a disappointing 10-17 record. It was widely expected that the Cougar defense would be strong but it seems as though the pitching staff may be the area to lead the team, based on the early indications. There were a few bright spots during April though and they can be seen in April's Cougar Collection:
Batter of the Month: 1B Jharod Thealer had an outstanding April. Thealer showed that moving to 1B from his customary 2B role and he seemed a little more relaxed at the plate with a .313/.464/.500 slash line. Thealer also had 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 HR, 6 RBI, and 3 SBs to lead the team for the month of April.
Pitcher of the Month: RP Paul Jones led the Cougars in April. Jones pitched 20.1 innings in 9 games, with 1 win. His 0.00 ERA and 0.59 WHIP turned a lot of heads as did his 17 Ks to 4 BBs over that time frame.
AAA Player of the Month: Richmond Panthers 1B Yoriyuki Kobayashi is the AAA Player of the Month for April. Kobayashi's April saw an incredible .338/.437/.730 slash line which included 8 doubles, 7 HRs, and 17 RBI in only 74 ABs. With those kind of numbers, the Charlotte Front Office will surely be keeping an eye on Kobayashi should the need for a replacement on the big league club be needed.
