Following the annual "Oh crap, Rule 5 time" part of the season, the Charlotte Cougars managed to come out with roughly a push, if not slightly ahead.
The Loss: LF José Campos was originally a Waiver Claim pick-up from Twin Cities just three short weeks before the Rule 5 draft. Campos found his way back to the Heartland but this time in Nashville. Campos is a 6/7/6/5/6 player that hits lefties just a little bit better, a passable left fielder and has some smarts when he's running the bases.
The Win: 2B Freddy Rijo was a Rule 5 claim from the Calgary system. Much like Campos, Rijo hits a little better against lefties and is a passable second baseman (but excellent 1B candidate.) Rijo also piqued the Charlotte Front Office's interest with his speed, smarts on the base paths, and his personality. Rijo is a hard worker and sparkplug - traits that are always favorable for a young team.
