C-Notes 2041.3 - It's Never Too Late

Post by GoldenOne » Sun Dec 29, 2019 11:14 pm

The off season was quiet in Charlotte (though it was rumored that several contracts were offered to quite a few high-profile players, with them signing elsewhere for longer contracts, though not necessarily a higher AAV) but a couple of days into the season, GM Golden decided to open up the checkbook. (Does anyone actually have a checkbook these days?)

On 3 April, the Cougars gave a 1 year, $6M contract to António Tobías. The Cougars dont expect Tobias to be a savior behind the plate, they are hoping he can be the offensive complement to McIilhome. GM Golden is hoping that the Cougars can find something from Tobias somewhere between the 0.8 WAR he earned last season in New Orleans and the 3.8 and 2.2 WAR he got in San Antonio and Calgary in 2039 and 2038.

On 4 April, the Cougars went big by signing 1B/DH Manuel Marino to a 2 year, $28.25M contract. GM Golden again seems to be hoping for a bounce-back season from Marino in 2041 and getting back to those 5.9 and 5.4 WAR he saw in 2038 and 2039. Anything above Marino's 7-year career averages of .297/.398/.547 will be a welcome addition from the switch-hitter.

maybe the GM has been hitting the sauce a bit if he still thinks he is running things in Nashville.
