C-Notes 2041.1 - Awards

Post by GoldenOne » Sun Dec 22, 2019 12:35 pm

While there wasnt much excitement in Charlotte's 48-114 season last year, there were (surprisingly) two players that received post-season awards!

Cougars Catcher Ares 'The Steamboat' Papadias and Left-Fielder Wes 'Crash Test' Savage both took home the Johnson League's Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award for their positions.

The 30 year old Papadias seemed to feel pretty comfortable with the Cougars. While he posted a career low WAR, it certainly wasnt hid defense that dragged those numbers down. Facing the second highest total stolen base attempts since he cracked into the majors (174), Papadias managed to throw out 74 of them, an incredible 42.5% of those would-be base stealers. An extension in Charlotte wasnt meant to be though - Papadias found himself signing with Montreal as a Free Agent this off-season.

While the 26 year old Savage certainly has the ability to play Center Field, the position he played his first 5 seasons in the league with Twin Cities, he was moved over the Left Field for his first season with Charlotte. While his 1 error, no double plays, and only 4 assists may not jump right out at you, but his +11.8 Zone Rating and 1.106 Efficiency Rating are what any Manager would love to see from their Left Fielder in the spaciousness of Charlotte's Family Dollar Field.
