C-Notes 2040.4 - Trivia Time

Post by GoldenOne » Thu Nov 14, 2019 3:00 pm

Its an easy answer to a trivia question now, but in 10-15 years it might be a little more difficult. Who was the first-ever draft pick for the Charlotte Cougars?

Quinn "Short Stuff" Richardson, an 18 year old, switch hitting Shortstop out of Plano, TX was the #1 pick and #1 overall, for the Cougars in the 2040 draft. In a draft where the talent level dropped off dramatically shortly after that first pick, Richardson's overall Potential numbers have increased since the day of the draft. With a fairly modest signing bonus of only $3.25M for the #1 overall pick, the Cougars seem to have found their future cornerstone in Richardson.

Richardson's Potential offensive numbers of 7/5/8/4/5 combined with slightly above average speed and base stealing ability may not propel him to many Silver Slugger awards but he should be able to hold his own when compared to many future Shortstops around the league. Its Richardson's defensive abilities and personality that will make him favorite of the Charlotte Front Office for years to come. Those 9/10/8/9 defensive ratings are better numbers than what some Shortstops have that keep them playing in the league. And then you throw in there his high leadership abilities and work ethic - what more could you ask for from your Shortstop and you first ever draft pick.

Remember that name - Quinn Richardson - as it wont be long before it becomes a name you cant forget.

So you signed your pick? Good, good. Means Portland should get the #2 and #3 pick in next year's draft. #2 pick most likely based on record and #3 pick as compensation for not signing my pick this season.

Let's hope next season's draft is a little deeper than this year's. Although, as long as there is one 70+ rated guy in the draft, I'll be okay with it either way.
