C-Notes 2052.06 - Cleaning House
Its the middle of June and it seems the Charlotte Cougars are packing it in. In a surprising move, the Cougars sent SP Thomas Turner, C Bruce McKinley, and OF Bret Powers to the Atlantic Division leader Montreal Blazers.
That's their Ace of the staff, their #1 catcher having a career year, and a strong outfielder that has hits in 9 of his last 10 games. That's a lot. And the return? Well, fans knew this season was a lost cause but there was hope that the core of this team could stay together and get it right for next season. Fans should know by now that GM Golden doesnt have that kind of patience.
In return, the Cougars got SP Lance Harrison, OF Juan Rodríguez, 1B Erik Wignes, C Adalgiso Bosendorfer, and CF Aurelio Diéguez. Not exactly the haul that will keep Cougars fans on the edge of their seats.
When asked about the trade, Golden had this to say, "Bruce is having a great year but we werent planning on picking up his option so at least we got something for him, Bret struggled and then got hurt, letting him go gives us some more financial flexibility. Tommy, well, we had hoped to resign Tommy but since our owner doesnt understand that Team Options should not really be counted on in the books against next season's salary, we would have to wait till the offseason and then have a very short window to get something done. We know what Tommy wants and if he still becomes a Free Agent this winter, we'll give him a call, no doubt."
"As far as the incoming guys...Well, we all know Lance. He shined for us as a SP; he loves it here in Charlotte. We should never have moved him to the pen, that's not what he's suited for. Juan? He can (normally) mash some righties. Who doesnt love that? Wignes can be an on base machine. We like that here in Charlotte. Bisendorker...whatever his name is....he's still figuring out the BBA after coming over from the GBC. We'll work with him. And Aurelio, well, our current center fielders are getting on in years. Might as well mix him in with them while he can still learn something from them."
"Overall though, this deal gives us some financial flexibility for future seasons. In this day and age, its almost as valuable as any prospects you can find."

Just glancing at the trade, the guy who interests me is Bosendorfer. Produced well in the only season where he played full time. Granted, it was the GBC, but still, I think there might be something there.

Yeah, he and the CF are most intriguing because they can play some defense at premium positions.

That monster Turner is refusing to discuss new contract!
Looks like it's the great sim roulette of when he is amenable to learn French.
